The 99th Annual Sale of Pedigree Greyface Dartmoor Sheep

Friday 19th August 2022
With 44 rams  and 32 females entered for the sale, it was going to be an exciting day and it did not disappoint. Many interested parties were able to watch the sale via Mart Eye and would have undoubtedly been impressed by the prices achieved and the quality of the stock forward.

The show saw Mr & Mrs D Rickson take the Champion Bullhornstone cup for the best exhibit (single male sheep) in the show.  Whilst Mrs K Jeans & Mrs M Hand took the Jack Cockram Memorial Cup for the best pair of hog rams and Mrs E Dawson took the Herbert Coker Memorial Cup for the best three hog rams.  Mrs M Osborne took the Championship Trophy for the best female in the show with a pair of Corland Park shearling ewes.

Prices were strong, with the females averaging 203gns with a top price of 350gns for a pair of Westley shearling ewes from Mr & Mrs S Hamer.  Rams were in strong demand, a joint top  price of 1100gns for  a Mudd’le ram from Mrs E Dawson and 1100gns for a Pitley ram from Mr G Goldring, with an additional four rams making 1000gns. An overall average on the rams of 600gns, with buyers coming from all over the country to purchase Westcountry bloodlines.

The 97th Annual Sale of Pedigree Greyface Dartmoor Sheep

97th Annual Sale of Greyface Dartmoor sheep at Exeter Livestock Market

Friday 18th September 2020

The annual show was cancelled due to the Covid-19 restrictions, however, that certainly did not dampen the spirits of those who had travelled from afar to purchase from the top bloodlines.  The DSBA would like to take an opportunity to thank those members, old and new who came and supported the sale, with stock making for new homes as far away as Howick and Cheshire.

Top price ram was a smart tup, with tremendous presence, from the Pitley flock, Pitley 96, sired by Vespasian 67 sold for 620 guineas to the White Lodge flock owned by Ms Satchell & Mr Curtis.

Pitley 96 top price ram at 620 guineas

Overall clearance was excellent, with just 3 rams not finding a home.  Average price on the rams was 330 guineas.
The females saw an excellent trade and were very much in demand.  The top price of 480 guineas for a pair of Great Park 39 shearlings out of the Vespasian flock owned by Mr by & Mrs Gatrill. Overall average for the 20 ewes forward, which were sold in pairs, was 270 guineas.
