Flock Registration

2026 lamb registrations

How Registration Works

Each year the Association opens its registration window in June. Opening the window at this point in the season gives members time to reflect on their flock and decide which lambs are genuinely worth registering — the aim is to register only the best.

Tagging Requirements

All lambs must carry a full UK tag number before they can be registered.

Once a female lamb has been registered, she will receive a DSBA tag. Tags are ordered by the Secretary in batches on behalf of members and sent out once they arrive, so this process can take around a month. Please note that 2026 is the last year this batch-ordering system will apply — the process is changing from 2027 onwards.

Registering Ram Lambs

For ram lambs, only birth-notify the ones you are considering registering, quoting their full UK tag number. These will appear on Grassroots as “Birth Notified.”

If you have registered fewer than five ram lamb crops, you will need to attend an inspection centre before your ram lambs can be registered. See the Inspections page for current dates and venues.

If you have already qualified to register your own ram lambs, you only need to birth-notify on Grassroots those you intend to register. Ram tags will be sent out and the rams registered on Grassroots once payment has been received. Please state whether you would like metal or plastic ram tags.

Any ram lamb that fails inspection will be updated on Grassroots to “Birth Notify Fail” and marked as unregistered.

If you are requiring a ram lamb inspection, then please just pay for one ram lamb registration, this is non refundable.  Should you have more than one ram lamb pass inspection, then you can pay the additional fee when that lamb has been passed. Methods of payment are detailed below.

No Need to Birth-Notify Everything

There is no requirement to birth-notify castrates, or any lambs of poor quality that you are not considering for registration.

Please note that it is possible to register your 2026 lamb crop by clicking on the Flock Book button at the top of the page.

Various centres will be holding ram lamb inspections, as more venues become available, they will be added to this page.
